In a historic show of strength and unity, 75 Indian American associations announce the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence at the US Capitol in Washington DC. The 75 organizations represent all states of the US. The historic event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 14, from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Dr. Jashvant Patel, CEO of the US Indian Relationship Council, President of Sardar Patel Fund for Sanatan Sanskruti, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said, “This unique event will be a hallmark in the festivity of India’s independence bringing 75 organizations together and showcasing India’s unique culture and diversity. The Indian diaspora organizations will use this opportunity to remember India’s rich tradition, its heroes, people, and their achievements.”
India 2.0
This Independence milestone will honor the people of India, who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its vibrant democratic journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0, fueled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
“The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav means elixir of energy of independence; elixir of inspirations of the warriors of the freedom struggle; elixir of new ideas and pledges; and that of self-reliability. Therefore, this Mahotsav is a festival of the awakening of a nation; the festival of fulfilling the dream of good governance; and the festival of global peace and development,” said Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on Aug 15, 2022, India’s Independence Day, from the Red Fort, New Delhi. He laid down a road map for India 2.0 to become a developed nation within the next 25 years.
India-US Diaspora
Indian American community has significantly contributed to America in the past 75 years. The achievements include advancements in healthcare, technology, human rights, sustainability, environmental health, etc. Innovation is at the forefront, and the US and India, the oldest and largest democracies, respectively, have worked together to further the relationship in many areas.
Many notable Indian Americans are entrepreneurs, CEOs, lawmakers /elected officials of Indian descent, leading doctors, scientists, technologists, students, and working professionals. They have contributed to the innovations and have been at the forefront of cementing the relationship between India and the United States.
According to Ashok Bhatt, former Water Commissioner, State of California and a Vice Chair of the Organizing Committee, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Ambassador of India to the United States, will be a guest of honor for this evening. Isaac Newton Farris Jr, Congressman Brad Sherman, Michelle Steel, Frank Pallone, Buddy Carter, Aman Sinha, senior lawyer from the Supreme Court will grace the occasion. The celebration will bring many lawmakers, Senators, Congressmen, CEOs, doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, and professionals as well as Pandit Sandeep Mahavir, renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer, Swaradhish Dr. Bharat Mohan Balvalli, playback singer and Indian Idol fame Bhavya Pandit, Ustad Kadar Khan and Kalavant Center will be the guests of the celebration at the Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.
