Bali, Indonesia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday underlined how India has opened more than 320 million bank accounts, calling it a number more than the entire population of the United States, and added that the country is the fastest-growing large economy and ranked first in several sectors.
Addressing the Indian diaspora in Indonesia at an event, Modi said India is a ray of hope for the world in the 21st century.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo handed over the G-20 Presidency to India at the closing ceremony of the 17th intergovernmental summit in Bali on Wednesday. India will officially assume the G-20 presidency on December 1. PM Modi said at the closing G20 session that taking over the presidency of G-20 is a moment of pride for every Indian citizen and LIFE – Lifestyle for Environment will play an important role.
Members of the Group of 20 leading economies ended their summit with a declaration of firm condemnation of the war in Ukraine and a warning that the conflict is making an already delicate world economy worse.
The summit’s closing statement was noteworthy because world leaders managed to highlight a denunciation of the war. “Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and stressed it is causing immense human suffering and exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy,” the statement said.
At the summit, President Joe Biden met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who played a pivotal role this summer in brokering a deal to open up Ukrainian grain exports to ease global food shortages. Biden also met briefly with PM Modi, whose cooperation is needed to secure, and sought a price cap on Russian oil to limit the profits Moscow uses to invest in its defense base.
