The Kashmir Files, a Hindi film based on the exodus and killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley in the 1990s, has breached the ₹100 crore-mark within a week of release. The box office collections in India have grown by 80% in just five days.
According to movie booking site BookMyShow, it contributed 49% of the film’s overall box office revenue collection for the opening weekend.
‘The Kashmir Files’ was finally released in cinemas on March 11 after facing several legal battles. On its opening day, the film had minted Rs 3.55 crore at the domestic box office.
Actor Anupam Kher, who plays Pushkarnath Pandit, in the Vivek Agnihotri film shared the good news that their film has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in just seven days at the box office. Sharing a picture on Instagram, Anupam Kher wrote, “Our film #TheKashmirFiles is showing its TRUE Colors! HAPPY HOLI to all! #Love #TruthWins #MagicOfCinema (sic).”
“The Kashmir Files SHATTERS ALL PREVIOUS RECORDS and ESTABLISHES NEW RECORDS [mid-range films] in Week 1… The journey – from ₹ 3.55 cr [Day 1] to ₹ 97.30 cr [Day 7] – is a NEW BENCHMARK… No mid-range #Hindi film has witnessed a trend like this, EVER (sic),” box office analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
‘The Kashmir Files’ tells the true story of brutal sufferings endured by Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, during the Kashmir insurgency. It is a true story, based on video interviews of the first generation victims of The Kashmir Genocide of the Kashmiri Pandit Community.
